Canyoneering getaway

I left the family at home to meet up with friends in Utah for some adults-only canyoneering. We had a mix of beginners and experienced types. We drove up Friday, did one canyon each Saturday through Tuesday, then drove back on a Wednesday. For the first two days we had Gary & Libby, Maggie, and Michael & Emma. Michael and Emma departed Sunday and Jon and Dan arrived minutes after they left to do the second half.

I took random gopro video footage but no photos, so all of the wonderful photos shown here were taken by others—I have endeavored to photo credit each one appropriately with a watermark on the photo. My video is a cursory mash-up, it’s not my best effort but I don’t have time for better at the moment. We did Cowboy, Duckett, the Blarney loop (up the E, down the W I think), and Monkey Business. The first three were new to me, and Monkey Business was the best (by mutual agreement).

I flew the drone on the Moki dugway, out at Muley Pt, and over our campsite at Duckett. It was pretty spectacular to FPV up the dugway and over the cliffs at Muley Pt. Forgot my ND filters (again) so it doesn’t have the correct exposure time for pleasing motion.

We’re a homeschooling family in Los Alamos, New Mexico, hoping to give our boys a love for the great outdoors and provide them with skills they’ll enjoy for life. When it comes to camping, we are experts at getting off the beaten path, away from crowded campgrounds.  And adventuring to us can be as simple as checking out a local park or as ambitious as hiking a Colorado 14’er.
