The contents of my kit. Top left is the compass and tinder (vaseline soaked cotton ball wrapped in plastic). Below that is mini BIC lighter wrapped in duct tape, a thin firesteel, and safety pins. Second row from the bottom, from left to right, has: a single Ondansetron anti-nausea pill, a P-38 can opener, a LED flashlight, whistle, kevlar string, ranger band, and pen. Bottom has signal mirror, roll of cash, and knife. Top right has the tin, with two pieces of waterproof blank paper and a packing list that fits in the lid.
From left to right: the Spyderco Ladybug, the Boker Lil Arrowhead, and the Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD. All fit in the Altoid tin.
Bodie decorated his so he knows which one is which.

We’re a homeschooling family in Los Alamos, New Mexico, hoping to give our boys a love for the great outdoors and provide them with skills they’ll enjoy for life. When it comes to camping, we are experts at getting off the beaten path, away from crowded campgrounds.  And adventuring to us can be as simple as checking out a local park or as ambitious as hiking a Colorado 14’er.
